WB Vice President visits SFD-supported program

22.02.2009: At the end of her visit to Yemen and after meeting President of the Republic His Excellency President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and a number of officials, the World Bank Vice President for the Middle East, Daniela Gracani paid a visit to the National Foundation for Microfinance, one of SFD microfinance programs.

During the visit, Ms. Gracani toured the various sections of the Foundation, met with officials and employees who presented to her and the accompanying delegation the performance and achievements of the institution designed to achieve the objectives of the National Strategy for Microfinance and the role of the Social Fund for Development to support the strategy. She also met a number of women beneficiaries of the foundation who spoke about the role of the institution in the development of their businesses and increase their income. At the conclusion of the visit, Ms. Gracani uncovered the World Bank's admiration of the SFD's procedures and the mechanisms and its  positive role to support the development, economic reforms and poverty reduction in Yemen.

 

 

KFAED supports SFD with US$50 million

22.02.2009: The government of Yemen and the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development initialed a loan agreement to finance the project of operations of the Social Fund for Development Program - Phase III at amount of Kuwaiti Dinars 14 million (eq. U.S. dollars 50 million).

The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of the Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development Abdulkarim Ismail Al-Arhabi and the General Director of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Mr. Abdulwahab Albadr.

The loan amount will be disbursed to finance projects for reducing poverty, improving living conditions and combating unemployment through the programs of community development and small and micro-enterprises development in accordance with the SFD rules and procedures and within its med-term vision. The signing ceremonies were attended by the Kuwaiti Ambassador  to Sana'a H. E. Mr. Salim Alzamanan.

 

H.E. UK Int' Development Minister visits two SFD-supported projects

24-1-2009:  H.E. Mr. Michael Foster, the UK Int'l Development Minister, H.E. Timothy A. Torlot, the ambassador of UK in Sana’a, and Ms. Sarah White the DFID country manager in Sana’a visited two of SFD-supported projects in Hajja governorate. One health project in Beit Anaqeeb, Al-Ashmor district and the other one was a water harvesting project in Beit Alwali, Kohaln Affar district.  The minister was accompanied by Amran Branch Office Manager and the M&E Unit Head.
