The SMED Book - 2011

The Small and Micro Enterprises Development unit (SMED) at SFD has published the first draft of its new book "Small and Micro Enterprises Development in Yemen and Future Prospects".  The book recounts the history of microfinance in Yemen since the establishment of the Social Fund for Development in 1997, as the largest player in developing this industry in Yemen.

The book was written by Mr. Adel Mansour (SMED Senior Project Officer) with the advice of some of his colleagues and other microfinance experts. It highlights SMED's role in the development of this important sector of the economy, successes, failures and difficulties, as well as various topics such as the effects of the 2011 crisis on microfinance in Yemen.
