SFD's Medium-Term Vision completed and approved

 

The Social Fund for Development (SFD), in cooperation with its partners in development, held in Sana'a on 15 December 2007 a workshop on the SFD's medium-term vision. The event aimed to finally complete and approve the vision developed in 2006 and discussed with its donors and local partners since then. Through its vision, the SFD aims primarily to enhance nature and balance in its operations and maximize their impact in poverty reduction. In developing the vision, the SFD took into account the social and economic development context in Yemen as well as SFD's strength and role in cooperation with its partners. The vision has been prepared to contribute to the third Economic and Social Development Plan for Poverty Reduction (2006–10).   more

 

Donor mission conducts SFD-intervention Midterm Progress Review

 
 

A joint donor team carried out the second bi-annual review of the SFD on 8-15 December 2007. The team included representatives of the World Bank (WB), UK Department for International Development (DFID), the Nether lands Embassy and the German Bank for Development (KfW).

The objective of the review was to assess the progress in meeting SFD third phase objectives as well as discuss and endorse SFD Medium-term Vision 2006-2010). The team met with H.E. Mr. Abdulkarim Ismail Al-Arhabi, the Vice Premier for Economic Affairs\Minister of Planning & Int'l Cooperation and the SFD Managing Director, H.E. Dr. Abdussalam Al-Joufi, Minister of Education, Mr. Ali Hilal, Minister of Local Administration and Dr. Mohammad Al-Hamdi, deputy minister of water and environment. The team later on attended a presentation about SFD Gender Mainstreaming Strategy and assured the importance of implementing it at the community level.

The team also looked into the Poverty Assessment conducted by the Yemen Government, the World Bank and the UNDP and confirmed that SFD's programs actually target poverty and stressed the importance of updating.

On the other hand, the team conducted field visits to Jibla, where they met some beneficiaries and members in the local councils and community committees; as well as the Grand Mosque in the Old City of Sana'a to see the SFD restoration works there.
