1. Introduction

Throughout history begining with Marib Dam,Yemen has been famed for its traditional Water Harvesting (WH) systems. Unfortunately, during recent years many of these traditional systems have deteriorated due to labor out-migration, and unregulated drilling of wells due to the significant flow of remittances.

These factors combined with a generally water scarce environment have caused a severe water crisis. SFD has intervented to address this crisis by rehabilitating and expanding traditional WH systems and through constructing new WH systems.
